Show 137 – April 11th

Today’s show was our last LIVE show for a while.  Yes, Angela, with a tear in her eye, announced today that she will be taking a sabbatical from the live shows until the Autumn of 2016, but…..

TheAbleLabelCollage_Web

….. boy did we have the most fabulous guests in the studio today, the brilliant Katie Ellis, founder of The Able Label and her mother, Valerie.  Katie and her business is amazing – we learnt why Katie set it up and who it helps – everyone and anyone who has difficulty dressing or cares for someone and helps them dress.  Only focussing on ladies at the present but I’m sure Katie will be expanding into the male market and probably also maybe kiddies, the product idea is superb and can bring confidence and independence to many ladies’ dressing requirements.  If you wish to see Katie in person, she will be exhibiting/talking at the following:

Bluewater Shopping Centre, Kent: 18th – 22nd April in collaboration with Ability Plus;

Speaking on 26th April at Naidex (the UK’s largest disability, rehabilitation and homecare event) in Birmingham.

Remember next week is also Parkinsons’ Awareness Week (18th – 24th April) – maybe we should all shout out about The Able Label and tag @ParkinsonsUK in our tweets?

Show 136 – April 4th

SimonLeeAngela was joined by another guest co-presenter, Hazel Addley who you may recall was on the show back in 2015 (listen back to her show from January 2015) and they both chatted with our great guest, Simon Lee of Unlimited Courage.  Simon calls himself a Human Experience Coach and helps people discover and experience their own courage, confidence and wisdom.  Hear how he does this and why he firmly believes our personal development and fitness industries would do well to merge for the benefit of us all.

Logo-Small-120x120Simon also explains more about the content of his forthcoming talk “Forge the Power of your Mind via your BODY” which takes place Wednesday, 25th May, 7-8:30pm at Sevenoaks School, Kent.  It’s only a £10 investment which includes refreshments too.  To book, visit Simon’s website.  Hurry, I think this is going to be a very popular talk.  See you there?

Show 135 – March 21st

seApAdvocacyAngela was joined in the studio by Sarah Oakes (pictured here on the left) and Sarah Deason (on the right) from seAp Advoacy.  We learnt why they joined the charity and what “advocacy” really means and how they support and help people safeguard their rights.  Listen back to hear both Sarahs explain how seAp helps and also the news that with effect from 1st April 2016 there will be a new way to contact Advocacy services for adults in Kent.  If you are looking for help on PIP or ESA you may find their c-app really useful too.

If you wish to volunteer for this charity, do get in touch as they are always looking for volunteers.

Show 134 – March 14th

JackRavenBushcraftIf you went down in the woods today……….

Angela was delighted to meet Gary Johnston from Jack Raven Bushcraft and Jayne Dunsbee from Inspirational Changes.  Hear Angela’s interview with them about why Gary set up bushcrafting courses and is now an approved CPD provider of The Institute for Outdoor Learning.  Also we hear why Jayne and Gary have partnered together to provide a new offering, Nature Based Mindfulness retreats.  Gary and Jayne touch on the scientific benefits of Mindfulness practices as well as the benefits of being outdoors.  We hear about the wonderful tasty recipes that Gary’s partner, Nicola Clowes, produces (that have been compared to restaurant quality) for example, Hogweed Pakoras, Dandelion Bajis and Sag Aloo made from Stinging nettles and why stinging nettles are so much better for us than Spinach!

If you wish to book on one of their Nature Based Mindfulness retreat days (or weekend) hurry as places are limited.  Dates on offer are:

Saturday 14th May      or      Thursday 16th June     or 2 day = Sat – Sun 13th – 14th August 2016.

Gillian_HarmonyTherapyTrust

Well we didn’t have any proposals on air – but we had a great time chatting with Gillian Smissen who is a Trustee for The Harmony Therapy Trust.  She told us how her daredevil antics caught the eye of the Trust who asked her to become more involved.  She also explains how the Trust operates and how listeners can get involved and raise funds to enable the charity to keep doing it’s great work.   Chris Pollard and Angela are seen holding their “Happiness Kits” as explained on the show.

Show 131 – February 22nd

CiLKCiLK-LogoWhat a delight it was to meet Hannah and Donna from CiLK.  After Jan met them at the Wellbeing Symposium last year, we popped along to interview them so we could shout about the great work they do.  They are such an inspiration to us all and CiLK offers great support for those who have a disability and want to live independent lives.  If you want to meet them in person, why not visit the next Wrinkly Roadshow on 11th March 2016 at Lenham Community Centre ME17 2QT (12-7pm), they’ll be there.

Show 129 – February 8th

JWTrainingLtdBarry and Jan Lewis of JW Training Ltd joined us today to highlight the importance of having an Emotional First Aid Kit in organisations.  We had a little challenge part way through the show, a power cut, which was rather exciting.  It didn’t deter us and we didn’t lose too much time to find out how Barry and Jan work with a variety of organisations and voluntary sectors and schools to deliver their accredited programmes.  They also explained the Emotional Healthscale as well as what our default emotion tends to be in times of stress.

Show 128 – February 1st

MiriamMcGuirk_FebShowAngela finally got to meet the lovely Miriam McGuirk (and her wonderful husband and business partner, aka Super Hero), Chris Pollard .  During the show we hear how Miriam has gone from strength to strength since 2014.  We chatted about why she made the move to write ‘Shattered Dreams & Scorpions at Midnight, a search for sanctuary’ under her own name, how her husband Chris is such a key to her support, both with living with M.E. but also in her career as an author and what great things they are up to later in the year.  Alongside all of this, we learnt that there is the audio version of her  ‘Shattered Dreams & Scorpions at Midnight, a search for sanctuary’ due out in 2016.  Miriam is about to start writing Volume 2 in this Tales from Turkey series to be published by the end of this year too.  We also had great pleasure in announcing the winner of our #inspire book competition (you’ll have to listen back to know who 🙂 ).

It was an absolute pleasure to have her and Chris in the studio and Angela is hoping it won’t be another 2 years before we see them again.  You can purchase her books by clicking on the titles above or the picture under the player bar.
